If I follow Goodreads rating system, 3 stars means "I like it." Well, that doesn't exactly cover all kinds of books. Although this was a novel, it felt a little jerky, episodic, not flowing well. But that was the point -- the experience of someone who had been imprisoned for years, including 9 months of solitary confinement in an extremely small and inhumane setting. So "I'm glad that I read it because it opened my eyes to this kind of history/experience" sums it better than "I liked it."
