While other books are useful for more depth, this is a wonderful overview and a good refresher to go back over specific aspects. Great diagram -- anatomy of a picture frame. Helps with understanding the names and parts of a frame. Shopping for recycled frames: garage sales, flea markets, etc. Old frames can be re-glued and re-nailed. They can be finished and repainted. They must be stable and sturdy. Watch out for dry, brittle, or rotten or badly warped wood. Shadow-box frame is made to hold objects. Extra depth to accommodate the thickness of the items. A slot for glass near the front of the frame. Designing picture framing.1. Framing for the art. Focus on the art.2. Framing for the room. Tying various color and design elements together to integrate with room decor -- but still consider the art as well. 3. Framing for personal preference.
